What is a reseller?

by semi-ambidexterous

I have a general idea of what they do (ie resell someone else's IPTV service), but can someone with more knowledge give me a 101 overview of why they exist, what they offer over buying straight from the source, pitfalls (if any), etc?

Original comment that got deleted was this:

Resellers are exactly that... someone who resells a service.

A lot of services do not sell directly and those that do often only offer limited support. Resellers usually have the time to deal with issues with devices/apps etc, leaving the service owners to concentrate on keeping the service running smoothly.

Using resellers also means that the owners have bulk payments going to them upfront so that they can pay their suppliers without worry.

There is mixed risk with resellers... If a service vanishes, all accounts go with it... if a reseller vanishes, the accounts often remain working until renewal. However, if a reseller is banned by the service (non-payment, leaks etc.), all accounts set up by that reseller tend to be removed also.
