Best hardware for simple TV-like experience?

by Baelishx

I'm completely new to IPTV and I'm feeling overwhelmed by the hardware choices. I don't need a bunch of extra apps. I'm just looking for a streamlined TV-like experience with all of the channels that I can surf through without too much lag and a program guide.

Can anyone help me out with recommendations? Thanks!

Honda civic = Firestick 4K 70$ CAD

Ferrari = Nvidia Shield 250$ CAD

With Tivimate you are good to go.

Can't beat the dedicated IPTV apps on the Formuler Z8 or Dreamlink T3.

After checking out the Formuler Z8 demo on youtube I've decided to go with that. It looks like exactly what I'm looking for, although it's a lot more than I planned to spend - hopefully it lasts a long time!

Geeza-WTF

I was using a Mag 254 but I've changed to Formuler Z8, What a difference and besides that Mag boxes are now blocking IPTV URLs with the latest update, which is pain because then it's a ball ache to restore it back to the previous Firmware. So basically the Z8 in my opinion is the business :)

My_Body_The_Mystery

I have the Formuler Z7

The remote and the guide and the setup is pretty similar to a cable box you get from the cable company. It's less reliable though

The MiBox and TiviMate combo works well for me (with an iptv service)

Definitely a Formuler Z8.

Over the past 6 months I've been through an android box with all the various apps, a ZGemma Enigma2 box, Tvheadend on a nuc, but nothing comes close to the experience on a Z8. It's built-in IPTV app pisses all over the others.

Buzz box or formuler is your best bet, last I read MAG boxes are getting problematic with being blocked, Nvidia shield is an awesome device youtube and netflix @4k plus gaming, but overkill if it is only for running IPTV alone, Amazon firestick is decent for some folks who want an inexpensive device to run IPTV and some other light streaming apps .

Best go with Formuler Z8. Best TV like experience you’ll find.

Well, I have been using iptv for about 4 months now and started using it on apple tv box with a paid app called iPlayTV and it was pretty good, nice guide, easy to navigate with the siri remote etc. But, after switching to an android box, the Formuler Z8 (approx USD140), the iptv experience is significantly improved, for all the usual reasons with android boxes, but most significantly with Formuler's built-in native iptv app called MyTVonline-2. There IS/ARE NO comparisons to this app and it is a joy to use. Tivimate is okay, but only half way to being as outstanding as MyTVonline.

Nvidia shield is very good from all reports but no MyTVonline app and its pricey.

Avoid MAG boxes, my recommendation is a Formuler android box, you'll love the MytvOnline app!

Formuler Z8 is the best. I have one to sell you. I love it but I just lost my job and need the money. DM me.

Jetstream from Walmart is actually very good. It's Netflix and Google certified. It is 70.00

I'm happy with my Channel Master Stream+. I can view and record live OTA broadcasts too.

Do you want something completely plug & play or you don't mind doing some setup? If you're not afraid to do some work, consider TV-headend + kodi. When set up properly it gives you a very tv-like experience, with a clean guide & ability to record/pause live TV. Check out pictures. Also once you set up the back-end, deploying additional front-ends is very easy. Just install kodi & point it to your server. This also gets around the "1 device" limit.

Downside is that I found it difficult to set up, even as a tech geek. Setting up the guide was especially annoying for me.

I installed TV-headend in a docker container on an ubuntu server VM & front-end (kodi) is running on a chinese android TV box (beelink GT king) fwiw. You can run kodi w/ tvheadend just fine on a rpi3 w/ libreelec (~$35).
