VPN needed on client boxes when server is protected?

by nate5532

I am using NextPVR w/ IPTV as a tuner. My PC that hosts NextPVR has a VPN running. I have several client/android TV boxes running Kodi.

Since my host PC is running a VPN, to I need to also have my client ATV boxes to run a VPN as well?

My thought is that if my host is routing the traffic through a VPN, my clients should be safe when viewing IPTV content.

Is that accurate? Or should I be running VPN's all round?

Your connect to the IPTV service is from your PC. Running a VPN on the PC will give you protection for the connection to the IPTV service.

But depending on the configuration of your network, the client/android TV boxes may not be able to see your PC when the VPN is active.

one vpn is a enough - i have my vpn on the router
and all my iptv boxes using that vpn's subnet with
no intranet access, that way each box only sees
the internet(vpn) and no other lan nic devices.

Yes, you are right. You just need your PC connected to VPN and acts as a gateway for the rest. Below is a link explaining some of the options. You could alternatively use your router to connect to VPN, it's more appropriate as per my experience. If you don't want to have every device to use the VPN, you can make use of an old router or buy a used one which has such capability. Then connect it to your main router/modem and have those ones that require VPN connect to it via WiFi or wire.
