New iptv app features

by Red_Mak

Hi everyone, Im developing an app for iPhone/iPad/Apple tv (and maybe a macOS version) only for xtream-codes api. For now i have classic features (with great design šŸ˜‰) with some note-so-common ones:

  • Favorites for live, movies and series.
  • resume playing videos.
  • next episode automatically
  • And the best one i think, is syncing over your devices:
    • you add a favorite in a device? you will have it in all your other devices.
    • you start a movie/serie in a device? You can resume it in the same device or in all others.

Features that will maybe missing in the first version:

  • EPG
  • Retrieve the channel logos (VOD covers are retrieved)
  • Chromecast

The app will only runs on iOS/iPadOS/tvOS 13 as it uses the last Apple’s technologies :)

After this small presentation, i have some questions for you :) :

1- is EPG a ā€˜have to’ feature? at least for version1

2- Do you prefer a subscription or a one shot ?

3- Should i invest time to make a macOS version ? Is this something you guys be interested on (note that i will be purchased separately due to Apple restrictions.. and will only run on macOS 10.5 catalina)

Finally, could you describe your dream ipTV app ? What features you want to have ? And what features are a no-go if they are missing?

I will open a beta test using testflight in a month or two if you are interested.

Thanks :)

Yep, EPG is crucial for me. Wouldn’t use an IPTV app without it. Also prefer a one off purchase rather than subscription.

If you’re going iOS 13 only can’t you develop a Mac app alongside ā€œrelativelyā€ easily?

Get it done m8 and get people to try it out and take it from there šŸ‘šŸ‘

EPG, Subtitles, audio support definitely prio 1 in my opinion.

Great idea.

The most important thing for me is: have no contempt for the end-user; be friendly to him or her.

I use GSE Smart iPTV on mac. For all intents and purposes, the app runs, but the design flaws are many. A lot of tiny things that make me dread ever launching it.

Examples:

  • of course, it does not resume where you left off, which is crazy
    • if you selected a different soundtrack or subtitle language, it does not remember that setting, either
  • when a given title (movie, or episode or show) is finished, the computer stays awake

Whoever designed and coded the app obviously knows what they're doing.

What they left out is pure neglect.

(The app has not been updated in 10 months.)

Best of luck to you.

Absolutely, I would love MacOS app. They are sorely lacking. I have tried pretty much all of them and no one can seem to get it right.

Also, in my opinion, a good, responsive EPG is make or break when it comes to these apps.

As far as cost, I would prefer a one time payment with a free option to test it out first.

All the best with putting it all together and I look forward to seeing it!

An AppleTV/Mac App without an epg is likely not going to generate you revenue, take a look at what the other guys are doing in terms of an epg. GSE and Smarters are iOS apps that sorta of have it figured out, lesser know probably iptvx which is trying to there best to be both. Know if you said hey I’m going to build and want to build arguable the best app for iOS and the Apple ecosystem hands down you want to Mimic tivimate or develop an Apple port for it
