Fire stick Mac Address question.

by JamesGTFC

Recently just paid for a sub for my IPTV and when purchasing it asks for my MAC Address, just wondering if I could take my fire stick round somewhere and still be able to use it?

If the provider supplies a M3U URL, you don’t need a MAC. If your supplier only supplies a portal address, and you’re using STBEMU then it will give you a MAC address to pass to your supplier.

Yes, MAC address belongs to the device.

If you are using STBEMU (STB Emulator) then you will have an option to create your own MAC address. You can just make up a random MAC address! This MAC address is not used for local networking at all. Instead the STBEMU will send this MAC address to your IPTV provider, basically to 'authenticate'. Your IPTV provider must have this MAC address listed in their system for the stream to work.

Technically you can have 2 or more Firesticks with STBEMU on them with the same MAC address. But you can only stream to one of those Firesticks. If you use both of them at the same time, video will keep going in and out as the IPTV provider will stop streaming to (for example) Firestick #1 and then will stream to Firestick #2. You really do not want to do this -- it'll probably get your account suspended.

So yes, you can take your Firestick anywhere you want. As long as the internet service is not blocking ports and IP address ranges, you should be OK. Or you can use a VPN travel router to make sure you bypass any restrictions by any ISP.
