IPTV DVR with Season Pass Option?

by gorgeoff

Hi. I'm a recent cord cutter and was looking into getting an IPTV subscription. Anyway, I have seen some apps offering manual recording as well as catch up, but I was looking to see if there were any that allowed setup for repeat recordings of new episodes for the same show. It doesn't have to even be for the same show, but something that records for the same time and channel every week or so. I plan on using my Nvidia Shield TV for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Formuler Z7/Z8 and Enigma2-based boxes are the only ones that do scheduled recording AFAIK. Z8 is great. Has a proper cable box experience and still runs normal Android apps. I want to slap people every time they recommend the Shield for IPTV. It cannot offer the cable box experience like a Z8 does. Enigma2 boxes are literally cable boxes so can do everything you need, but you kinda need to hack them for IPTV and tend to be a little flakier than I'd like.

You can always try emby, jellyfin or tv-mosaic. All of them they offer recordings and also you can schedule to record series of shows.

That’s an interesting idea and perhaps an untapped market for most typical IPTV.

Technically there’s a few, but I doubt you’ll like the answer.

I know DirecTVNow has this feature as I’ve used it, an I’m pretty sure Vue and Sling both have a similar options as well. However I don’t particularly like DirecTVNow and Sling as they can’t be broken into an m3u file (maybe it can be sniffed, never tried, but I doubt it) and have wayyy too many limitations/restrictions placed on the end user.

Vue is a bit better as you can get it broken up into an m3u file, but if you were to do that and plug it into Kodi or another program, it would no longer have the Season Pass DVR/recording feature, soooo....

...I’m going to guess not. The only way it would be viable is with one of the three services mentioned above, however if you go with one of those services, you’ll be RESTRICTED TO THEIR PLAYER and not able to use your own IPTV host app/program like a Kodi/Perfect Player/etc. (not true for Vue, but again, if you don’t use their player you won’t have access to their DVR).

(I think all three of those are available for Android/shieldtv)

So true a shield sucks with iptv ! Plain and simple
