nVidia Shield Plex Server

by TumbleDesperado

I am a noob to the whole IPTV scene, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I am trying to set up a DVR I can access from other devices, and I know the Live Channels app has DVR but it is protected from what I have read and cannot be saved to a separate location for server access. I am also aware Plex has a first party DVR application but I am unable to find information about it working with anything that isn't OTA. So I'd like to know if anyone has a setup that is able to achieve this and how did you do it?

EDIT: I should probably mention that ideally the solution to this would be self-contained on the shield

Plex does only support OTA but there are application that will emulate IPTV to appear as hdhomrun tuner. Look into xTeve, it works very well but you will need to set that up on a computer. I have mine running in a VM and it works very well.

If you have an old spare PC lying around, you should really consider using NextPVR and its Kodi addon. There are other options (TVHeadEnd, MythTV, MediaPortal), but NextPVR is by far the easiest to configure. It may take some time to set up but trust me, you'll have control over all your OTA and IPTV sources that neither Plex or Live Channels apps gives you. You can use it with either Kodi, NextPVR app, Channels app, but using Kodi to access it is way easier to set up. And best of all: all of this is FREE!

It allows you to build a central server, than you're able to access it from any device. Be it a TV, a media player, a smartphone, a tablet, a PC....anything that supports any NPVR client offers.
