Probably the wrong place to ask!! but if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great!!
At the moment i have a minix box running on wifi but want to hardwire it. However every time i plug the cable into the router(netgear nighthawk1900) the wifi drops out on everything else (pisses the kids off no end!!)
Is it possible to have the box hardwired and everything else on wifi??

Get a mesh network all your problems solved
The router might have 4 ports, that shouldn't interfere with your wifi, just maybe do an firmware update, check the setting and be sure the port is configured right, usually you don't have to config any port, but maybe they are block
I had a router do this- it would cut the wifi on ALL devices for 2 seconds when a new device joined the network. It eventually got resolved with a firmware update but god damn it was annoying...
That's not normal for the router to drop wifi like that. Log into the router, back up your current config and look for an update for your router.
Make sure you're plugging into one of the 4 ports and not the wan port.
Buy a new router
