I am noob.

Forgive me, for I am completely ignorant to all of this. Can someone give me a rundown on how this all works? I have iPlayTv downloaded on my iPhone XS Max, I have the suggested default playlist but none of the channels work. Is there a better way to watch live sports thru this app? I read that having a VPN is important, I use Betternet, should I upgrade? Just give me everything you've got.

These 2 comments haven't been very helpful. The app that you have is an app that is used with an IPTV service to view the channels. There are different apps you can use alongside your service - Some apps have better usability, look nicer, etc. But they don't actually give you "free" TV or anything like that. You need an IPTV service.

When you sign up with an IPTV service, they give you channels in the form of an m3u file. This file can be uploaded into any IPTV app you want (like the one on your iPhone). Once the active m3u file that you got from your IPTV provider is loaded into the app, you will see channels populate.

There is no real website that gives you a list of providers to choose from or anything like that. You need to do your own research. I use DarkMedia because it is the most reliable service that I've used, and I love the customer service. Up to you to find one you like though.

Fair enough, is there a place I can go and “shop around” for different IPTV providers? I’m really only looking for live sports (NFL, NBA, UFC, etc.) so I don’t know if there are some that are specifically made for those.

there is no consumer reports for iptv. for the cost of one month of cable, you can get at least 5 month long subscriptions to try out. Best thing you can do is go to r/iptvreviews , dig a little bit and sign up for a few of them and then test them out for a month and reup with the one(s) you've found work best for you. The onea you'll see the most of are probably: Beast, Helix, Gears reloaded, Nitro, iptv007, Streams are us off the top of my head.

If you want some free TV on your phone try PlutoTV.

You need a m3u playlist ! This will give you Channels! However IPTV do have its pros and cons . VPN is good I recommend IPVanishVPN.
