Does VPN make a difference for IPTV?

by 3FromTheTee

I know everything was pretty bad for the past few weeks but my Northern iptv was working better again 2 nights ago then last night it buffered like crazy.

I bought Zenmate vpn and tried it but there was no difference... I rebooted, cleared cache and still nothing.

VPN seems pretty straight forward... I tried auto, Canada, and US with no luck.

I'm certain it's Rogers communication (my ISP) throttling me but I thought VPN would take care of it.

Can someone enlighten me on what I'm doing wrong?

It depends on a number of things ie the location of the streaming server your connecting to, the location, routing and speed of the VPN you are using. It also may be an issue with the IPTV provider your using, I know that the ones I have, have been ropy so it could be down to that, perhaps you could ask your provider what VPN country they recommend, you could also try changing protocols and ports of before connecting your VPN.

If buffering is not coming from the source, the most common cause is jitter. Use the ookla speedtest app and do an international speedtest (if you're in the usa, test against the uk) and see what the jitter is. It should be as close to zero as possible. Anything over 30ms will cause noticeable buffering. Anything higher will cause real problems.
