Was wondering if there's a way to record shows off of gears tv...I don't see a software option so I was wondering if maybe using a mag box would work with gears to do recording?

Just search this board for recording. You'll get many many people asking the same question and many more even reviewing their options. Android recording works with Implayer, iptvextreme, smarters, PVRlive, XCIPTV and more
None are perfect, all work to some degree or another.
Tvheadend will do what you want. However, it may require you to be a bit more technically inclined.
The mag won't do what you want.
If you really want to do it the easy way, you could capture your mag with something like an elgato capture card.
Honestly though, every show is available for download for free anyways if you look in the right places. Unless you're recording the news or live sporting events, there's no reason why you can't securely find what you want on usenet or other sources.
