how to parse and simplify a provider's m3u list

by mrhappy002

Hi. I'm looking for a way to simplify/clean the m3u from my provider. I dont need all these channels and would like to clean the original m3u before it reaches my android box.

Also looking into setting up tvheadend or pvrnext on my unraid server so I can handle recordings. But the 42K or so channels I get in my m3u is making the parsing process crash for NextPVR.

Found a docker that seems to do what i'm looking for here https://hub.docker.com/r/mrrobotstuff/m3ufilter but I'm not sure how to make this work. Any help or recommendations?

You could use xteve - imports your m3u and XMLTV EPG data and allows you to filter what channels make it into it's reconstructed/published m3u and XMLTV file

(It can also imitate a HDHomeRun tuner so Plex can consume it in the livetv section)

Just download the m3u file from your provider, edit out the channels you don't want and then host the file yourself somewhere and configure your client to point at it. m3u format is just text so easy to edit.

I can help you setup and maintain an xteve instance in the cloud for about $5 a month.
