Is anyone running a VPN on a Firestick 4K while Streaming? How's the performance?

I would like to setup an always on VPN running on a FireStick 4K to Private Internet Access while also streaming highest quality football streams.

VPN's bandwith is usually limited by the processor power of the device it is running on as it is quite resource intensive. (I have had trouble before with VPN bandwidth running on an ASUS router making streams unwatchable)

Can the FireStick 4K handle running a VPN and streaming? Does anyone know what the maximum bandwidth it can achieve?

EDIT: I bought the Fire Stick 4K and tested it using the official Private Internet Access App. My Internet maximum speed is Down 300/50 Up, but the fire stick will be limited by WiFi speed. I did each test 4 times.

With VPN 71/45 74/46 80/46 77/45

Without VPN 82/48 87/48 74/49 88/48

Pretty clear that there's very little impact from having a VPN running on the FireStick 4K.

Performance is fine. I run AirVPN through the OpenVPN client on the Fire Stick 4K and get about 90mbps, if i remember right even if you set it to TCP (which slows things down more) instead of UDP it still left plenty for streaming.

I've done it and it worked fine.

VPN was my own, hosted abroad on a VPS.

Only hard bit was finding VPN client that would sideload and work, but if you're using a biggish paid for VPN then they will most probably have their own client that works on FS4K

I use IPVanish, no issues. The 4K firestick has better WiFi reception then the regular firestick.

I have a box far shitter than firestick and I use wireguard no issues as better than openvpn.

I been using express vpn with dark media , sports tv , and a few others I picked up on crazy good deals , all work totally fine . I picked the cadallic of vpns for the speed and support . Never looked back with express . Amazing vpn service .

yes, wired has a 90mbps limit due to 10/100 port
wireless (5.0ghz) can be hundreds of mbps.
i prefer assigning the vlan vpn client on the router
depending on the router cpu you may only get 40mbps
but i find it's easier to manage with multiple 4k sticks.
keep in mind 40mbps is more than enough even for
one netflix hd or youtube 4k stream.

I am. Firestick 4K with PIA VPN. No issues at all. I have it set to log in at boot but I do occcasionally check to make sure it's running lol.

I'm also using Wifi but using the extender cable and my router is literally 2 feet from the stick. It's obviously slower connection than without VPN but the difference isn't enough for it matter. (20 down vs like 100 down without). Go for it.

Using expressVPN on the trial and it's not too bad - Plusnet fiber in the UK - I don't know what the max bandwidth is though

I have used ipvanish for a while and runs so much better when using my vpn. My isp loves to throttle the speed. So yes it works great and is well worth it as well!

I have a firestick 4k and ExpressVPN. Get 500mbps normally. Get only 50mbps with VPN on.
