From the Tivimate discord:

Hi @everyone. A lot of people have asked this here in the server and messaged me personally; Do I need a VPN? I want to clear this up for everyone.

Yes, you should always use a VPN when using IPTV. While you don't technically "need" to use a VPN most of the time (except maybe UK), you still should always use a VPN. The streams, catch-up, and VOD that your provider is giving you are 100% illegal. There is no debating that. The act of watching these streams is also illegal in most countries around the world. That means just watching these streams as a customer is in fact illegal. A VPN gives you a layer of protection. A good VPN won't inhibit your viewing experience so there is no good reason not to use one. Be safe, always use a good VPN.

No you don’t need a vpn to run m3u links on your media player, if you really want one check private internet access, they have the best prices/reliability in the market

IP vanish is great and have been using it for years also I would recommend a VPN why let your ISP know what you are doing

Nordvpn was hacked. Not sure i would trust them with my vpn needs......

Your best bet is to buy a ROUTER WITH VPN

Ip vanish is terrible. They block some iptv. They block gears reloaded. Nord doesn't block any iptv.

I use PIA, Private Internet Access, and it works great! I paid $39.95 for the year and it covers up to 10 devices.

They also have given information to the feds. I don't trust them.

Any recommendations price-wise?

It depends on your ISP, a few throttle IPTV and with a VPN you can make sure that does not happen. I experienced exactly that with my service and initially thought they have buffer issues, but once I used my VPN no problems at all.

If you only need the VPN for basic stuff like buffer free TV or an extra layer of safety, then a service like VPN Unlimited works absolutely fine for just $ 29,90 for a lifetime account / 5 devices on (no idea I can mention that) Stack Soc..l

I use it since 2 years and it works great. I know there are better options out there, but as mentioned for basic protection or stuff like this here you get great value.

Other VPN I used were Nord and Windscribe and they were also working fine for me, but they don`t offer Unlimited (Windscribe did for a while, but not anymore). At least you get decent deals on these 2, as far as I know IP Vanish is a bit on the expensive side.

We have never needed a vpn with our service but as someone commented earlier some users did suffer isp throttling and said a vpn stopped any issues they had.

We recommended Nord vpn they had a deal on don’t know if it’s still on but it was £60 a year for 6 devices so we just told people to get one between a few of them, if you only need one then if there are 6 of you going in on it you can’t go wrong for £10 each a year. Well worth it as £10 a year is nothing really in comparison to what your saving using IPTV anyway. Some people just liked to have it just to be on the safe side.

From experience it seemed to be Vodafone that we’re the worst for it, people would say it was perfect all week but come Friday and Saturday evenings there was clearly throttling by them and as soon as a vpn was turned on they would be perfect again.

The easiest way to tell was normally to just run regular speed tests on your internet and a lot on Vodafone would report a 60/70% decrease in speeds of a weekend without a vpn but then turning one on they would be back up to their normal speed they would get at all other times. I think it was ISPs way of trying to make the IPTV service look bad without actually blocking them completely, as for other isps I’m sure it probably happens too but not had any experience with it so can’t comment on them. The only other thing I would say is make sure if your isp has and services such as broadband shield or web safe (virgin defo has this) then make sure they are turned off as they can have the same effect as throttling on your service, it’s kind of like a back door for them to mess with your service whilst trying to make out it’s a feature to help your security etc but it doesn’t it just slows you down, hope this helps

Any connection anywhere

Yes you definitely should have one. You usually don't "need" one but you should always use one. The content you're streaming is illegal. In most places in the world, even the act itself of streaming it is also illegal (you watching it). Be safe, use a good VPN. Avoid any providers that don't allow or support VPNs.

Need? Technically no, you can watch without one and it will work. But do you need to snort cocaine in a private room or would it also have the same affect if you did it on a public street patrolled by random police?
