I'm curious about getting the actual channels - middleware and distribution parts are easy once you got the streams :)
Most of the channels I know you can get off the "cable" (DVB-C) TV and the rest from SAT (DVB-S).
However, I'm not sure which Cable TV (DVB-C) providers out there have Sky Sports and can be descrambled (for example - with some card sharing involved into the mix).
Can anyone advise me on this? I've seen really recently full-quality Sky channels that were from an local UK "cable TV" provider, so I'm pretty sure this is possible even in the UK.
I looked into this a year ago. I priced out the costs... About $10k per year for 2 dedicated servers. $2-3/channel per month (300 channels = $600-$900/mo or $7200-$10800/year). Middleware (depending on quality) $1000-$5000/yr.
Using those numbers, you'd have to collect $18k min per year. If you charged $100/yr for service, you'd need 1800 customer (or resellers).
I'm sure there's holes in this. And your prices may vary. But that's an idea.
I just decided to stay a customer. Not even reselling is appealing with all the bs you get from customers.
