Measuring interest in a 24/7 project

by soulnull8

Hello,

I've been tasked with measuring interest in a project some folks are working on, and this seemed like a good starting point.

24/7 channels are always the forgotten and neglected parts of most services. A lot of the time, they work poorly, the quality can be hit or miss, have encoding errors/mistakes, get stuck, and never get much love from the providers. They're low priority to them, since live linear streams are the bread and butter and what most people want to watch.. But 24/7 is certainly appreciated by some folks.

A few people have kicked around the idea of starting a service for IPTV providers (and end users as well) to try to rectify this. They're looking to focus exclusively on 24/7s, high quality sources transcoded consistently and correctly, high reliability with a good selection. Knowing this will only be an add-on service, the goal is to make it pretty cheap... Whether the best route is to sell direct or sell to resellers/providers is something they haven't hammered out yet.

I personally am frustrated with how poorly the 24/7 services work across pretty much every provider, and am quite interested in the idea (hence why I'm here posting)... But really, this is still at the ground level, and they want to see if it's something people will actually want before dumping a bunch of time into setting up the infrastructure to get it going... So this isn't a sales ad or anything, it's purely to gauge interest in deciding whether to move forward on setting up a project for this purpose. They'll be monitoring the feedback here.

So far, they've had me involved in some very small scale testing, and I think it has potential, seems like they've got a potential winner in terms of how well it seems to work... But I don't blame them for being wary of setting up a ton of infrastructure for something that nobody gives a shit about.

So really, negative or positive, please post and share your thoughts. And if you're a provider/reseller, please post from that perspective as well...

Well, I love 24/7 channels and there can never be too many so you have my support.

This post is all i've ever wanted. I'm addicted to 24/7 streams, and I definitely would pay for a 24/7 tv/movie service. Chalk me up for testing too.

In my opinion, 24/7 channels are a side benefit for most and only regularly used by a small subset of the market. It may be worth paying a few bucks (up to ~$5) for a quality 24/7 service, but not more.

I would definitely like to see the 24/7 channels get more love. It's a stoners paradise. I have helix and a lot of the fun is remembering a show that you see in the lost and watching it for the nostalgia. If I ever then felt compelled to watch the entire volume of 'Alf' I would probably then go find a torrent etc. Being able to turn on 24/7 Simpsons and have it be a random episode is good, as it takes the "hassle" out of choosing one yourself, it's good background noise. The problem I've noticed is that the same couple of episodes play on the 24/7 Simpsons channel. I'm sure I remember one service had a season 1-10 Simpsons 24/7 and that was awesome

DeadMan36

I'd be interested in testing or paying for a service like this , always loved the 24/7 channels

You have my upvote

True2TheGame

I have subscriptions to iptvs solely for the 24/7 channels as that's mostly what I use it for.

The only reason I would ever consider IPTV would be if it had 24/7 channels.

I’ve watched so many IPTV reviews on YouTube and I always look for how many channels they have in there 24/7 category, because I love those channels. And your right most are hit or miss and get left on a back burner, in fact one of my services just put the kabash on their section, which blows.

I’d definitely be interested in an add-on 24/7 service for $5 or less. I think that would be a helluva idea, go for it!!

I like being able to watch all the channels that I missed out on since I canceled cable and I appreciate not having to scrounge the internet for links whenever there's a PPV but I probably love 24/7 channels the most. My main service has close to 300 but I wouldn't mind a 24/7 backup service that has more shows that I actually watch (anime tv shows/movies, action movies, horror movies/tv shows).

I would love to be a helper and a tester. Of course I see you are not at that stage yet but you can send a DM and I’ll try to help in any way possible.

Happy to beta test!

Imergera

I'd love that kind of service, it is basically my only interest in IPTV !

Would love to beta test and love to buy it day 1 as well !!!!!

Yes please I'm missing my Ancient Aliens lol.. I've stayed with Bestbuy IPTV because they have Australia and more Importantly a good range and selection of 24/7 lately however the services have become unreliable🤬 I've now got a new subscription to run beside Best buy I've spoken to some one in Volta and he said we will only look at stable services I hope this project goes ahead Regards David

Ohh btw hand up as a tester if needed

id be interested. i love that my current provider has these. but they dont update them very often and they arent as stable as the regular channels.

I would absolutely love a service with quality, reliable 24/7 channels. And yes, I would pay for a service with only 24/7 channels to supplement my services. Really the main reason I have 3 services now is just because I've been searching for some decent 24/7's, because everything else is acceptable. None of my 3 services even attempt to maintain their 24/7 channels or repair them if a channel goes down...they used to, but now they say they have no control over it and there's nothing they can do. One of them is just removing channels when they go down. It's very frustrating because several people I know enjoy the 24/7 channels. If there's ever any way I can help with this project, let me know! Thank you and good luck!

Before the big meltdown I sold a pretty cool service was, vod, over 10k movies 3k tv series and 1k 24/7 ( no live tv ) unfortunately they didnt recover but I personally loved the 24/7... was cheap also 35$ a year.

MediaVerse1

Brilliant idea.

Pm me costs monthly to add to our iptv servers and what you currently have ready in 24/7

We also have our own emby so if you need content to convert to 24/7 Free of charge let me know ..

fibonaccisprials

I would love this.. Esp if there was a 24/7 doc channel.. Space etc

Going back to the original post.

What can a new service provide that isn't already available?

  1. Better quality, consistently across the entire library
  2. Full library of aired episodes vs just one or two years of a long running series
  3. Timely release of new episodes as available
  4. Loop play AND ability to retain progress in linear viewing
  5. Pricing competitive with current offerings to IPTV providers

If you can do the above, you'd have a better product for the same price. That could be marketed by the providers as a selling tool.

24/7 channels are a good add-on to IPTV for most people. My problem with this kind of add-on is I like to watch for a while, stop and then continue where I left off.
With most of the 24/7 services I've seen, they just run on a loop and the only way to watch is to just catch whatever is on at any particular time.

I like to watch series in a liner fashion. And this is an option yet to be employed on IPTV because of the infrastructure costs.

Skyscreamers

Depends on what the content is, I applaud your efforts into this type of iptv. Are you planning to be a separate supplier or are you planning to offer restream to existing iptvs

scottymtp

I think many people would be willing to pay a premium for just a quality regular service. Obviously the grumpy people will respond to just get cable if that's what you want, but I guarantee there is a market for this.

No 24/7 or VOD, but catchup would be nice

Target US/UK/CAN

Hire people to do quality checks on every channel at least 3 times a day and advertise you do that

Provide refunds autmatically for service outages. Will show you have incentive to maintain good service.

Ensure EPG is always up to date and channel names specify resolution and fps

Allow Bitcoin, PayPal, credit card

No need to have every channel under the sun

ThisDeeLovesEyePTv

Does anyone have a service with 24/7 that they use regularly?

troyortroy

There is providers out there, but I don’t think it’s their bread and butter. Especially since the Xstream UI panel has the create a channel feature now. 24/7 channels are easily made and easily maintained. I honestly think the market for it would be low.

babypleasejustthetip

I always wondered if someday there would be a service that allowed people to setup their "OWN" 24/7 TV channels.

Sort of like people create internet radio stations via shoutcast, where they come up with their own channel theme for the programming.

Being able to do that for a 24/7 video channel based on your own theme would be awesome, such as making your own channel that showed your fav 80s shows, and then sharing that with others.

Also does anyone remember how much fun it was to watch the 24/7 TV channels on Justin.tv , and chat along with people about the episode etc? That is a seriously under developed opportunity out there I think.

Bambam_Figaro

What are you guys calling 24/7 channels? Normal TV channels?

You all seem to see them as rare, when it's what my past suppliers were advertising first and foremost. I'm confused. All the channels for a specific "TV package" right?

Or is it an American thing?

CarHustler

Any new developments on this project?

24/7 stuff are like radio - not too many people watch them or listen and the ones who do cause havoc.

Our local provider here (only for our building) has lots of 24/7 stuff and lots of things you can't find on torrents or anywhere else.

I spoke with this Provider and they shared a lot of useful info about this.

Channels/radios are all properly encoded, working very well, I suspect they use some basic TV station software as channels have logo, smooth transition, overlayed text, multi language audio and subtitles etc.

And there's even some 24/7 running programmes from local premium/paid sites too, also made professionally.

Also is the same for radio channels, it is like TV channel but with the logo of the radiostation, what's on (song or show) and what's next, also with time shift (archive).

Pretty few people watch those channels here (more people actually watch the CCTV cameras in/out/near the building/parking lots and all over the city that are available as channels on the local IPTV) and the ones who watched caused more havoc than helping (for example - someone calls in to change the Tom and Jerry serie on the dedicated 24/7 channel named "Nonstop Tom and Jerry" to something else because this had too much violence and it is setting bad example for his kid, etc.)

Same goes for radiostations as well (imagine someone calling the IPTV support because they want to request a song on the radio) and while we do have a pirate FM station for the building (and nearby blocks) that plays everywhere in the coridors, elevator, the restaurant and 24/7 store and runs on the IPTV and has local site that you can open only from within the buidling's network and request a song, and it will play on air, along with some text as dedication, people still call out to do this on a commercial FM station instead.

We had local "PPV" (which was interesting, you can request the movie you want to watch next via SMS code on one of the 20 local "PPV" channels)

Just imagine the headaches for all this and you can guess why even the most premium services out there don't do well with 24/7 streams and interactive radiostations on their IPTV.(and our "service" is far from the best I've seen but for a free service in the building that comes with gigabit Internet and paid via along with the common shared bills for the building complex is perfect)
