So, I've been waiting forever for the HD Homerun Prime 6, but I was wondering if their was a satellite version of this? Is there any way I can buy a subscription to DirectTV or Dish Network and buy my own receiver that outputs IPTV standard? I would assume this would be something comercial spaces like hotels and bars would need anyway. I would just use it for myself to integrate into my Plex. I've searched Alibaba and there are a ton of DVB satelite to IPTV boxes, but I don't know what services they would work with.
Unfortunately not. I'd love to just say "screw it" and put my directv into the tvheadend, but DirecTV makes it exceedingly difficult, so I pay for DirecTV AND IPTV providers. Which sucks.
DirecTV encrypts it all to hell, and unless you pay for racks of commercial receivers to serve each channel, it's just not practical, and very expensive. And even still, it's not an IPTV standard, that's just to get it into a DVB standard, you'd still need something to remux the feeds (tvheadend would do a nice job with it, but the cost of the commercial receivers is ridiculous). Used to be somewhat doable with IR blasters and component cables, but that's pretty much a thing of the past.
Not to be confused with a regular "commercial receiver", you need one that can actually output a DVB signal (might be called an "industrial" receiver or something similar), else you're exactly where you started. And it's not quite the same service, you're basically paying for each channel.
EDIT: I'm apparently outdated.., you don't need an entire rack anymore.. The COM3000 can do up to 138 channels, but it's definitely not for the feint of heart... And you're looking at about $11,000...
