Figuring out if i am being scammed

by patricious

Hi all,

So when it comes to IPTV services I am a newbie. I recently got myself a LG 4K TV with the SmartIPTV app. Way back I had a contact of a guy who apparently hooks people up with 5000+ channels for like 80 euros/year. So I contact the guy, give him my MAC address and lo and behold I have plenty of channels, including some 4K stuff too.

Is there a way to see what type of M3U list he is using or what service is he using for these channels? I've seen plenty of free lists on the internet and I just don't wanna be scammed by this guy cause I still haven't paid him yet.

Any info would be helpful, thanks.

So how are you being scammed if you have channels? And mac address service is not m3u service.

The free lists are changing all the time and require a lot of work on your part to use consistently, and they usually don't come with HD or 4k quality for a good number of channels. They also usually don't come with EPG that shows you what is on and what is playing next. So, likely not a scam from this guy.

He doesn't want to lose access once he pays him i suppose? Also I would look into a VPN.

If you haven't paid him yet, I'd suggest looking around for other options. With annual payments, you have no guarantee that the service will last that long. You don't have such guarantees with the monthly options as well, but instead of loosing €80 you will only loose €10-15. And maybe you will find something that better suits your needs. You can find decent services for half that price, I see them all the time for 30 to 40 dollars/euro/pounds per year. Momth to month is the safest way to go, but if you can get one for under $40 per year and they've been around awhile and have good reviews, may be worth the risk. Just be aware that any service can go belly up overnight and you can lose your money. Look around, do some research, read other users experiences. There are a few good Facebook groups devoted to iptv service reviews.
