VPN needed in North America?

by kzcvtm

Is a VPN required for IPTV in North America? I understand the importance of this for torrents, but IPTV streaming isn't the same, is it? We don't keep the stream, we just watch it.

Am I missing something here?

Depends on your ISP. Most of the time VPN is not needed. It generally introduces more problems than it solves imo but if security is your priority go for it.

Spectrum has been causing issues the last few days and switching my VPN on has eliminated buffering for me

Hey, replying again in the case you don’t get a notification from the other thread.

Just got Express VPN, getting steady 18Mbps up and down. It has completely solved my streaming issues. I was surprised to find they actually had a firmware for my modem- Nighthawk R7000, that easily lets me manage which devices get VPN, which don't, like my PS4.

I have Optimum btw.

Any recommendations of vpns to use, from what im hearing pia is no longer recommended and nord just got hacked?

You don’t need a VPN for IPTV unless your isp is throttling your connection.

You’ll probably need one. I just got a box and recently it’s now buffering more often than not. I’m willing to bet it’ll clear up with a VPN.

Basically your ISP recognizes the stream as being different than the usual channels, and caps you.
