I usually just download the app to my sony android tv and it seems ok. Is there an advantage to using an nvidia shield over this?

If you are just watching IPTV and media, I would get a dedicated STB like a Z8 or T3 over the shield.
Stbemu app from play store on a shield works great for me with limitless iptv. No need to fanny on with huge m3u and epg addresses, just stick your mac in there.
I love my Shield
I use it as my media center - so not just for my IPTV (TiviMate) but for Plex, YouTube, Netflix, etc.....
Highly recommend.
Is a fire tv 4k stick good enough and will it be faster than my android tv?
depends on your tv. My samsung app choices suck. I use emby.
I used to have my sub to be more specific iptv007 oon nvidia , after some update it stopped working contacted provider they tried to help but never worked , checked with a firestick and a mag box the sub worked perfectly , so i think its an issue with nvidia settings , i prefer to keep it simple just paste and go , if you are happy with your android tv stay with it .
Help please!! Best IPTV service for Indian and Panjabi live TVđđ
Advantage= More memory and a bigger processor in the shield. Smoother experience.
Disadvantage= 2 remotes
You can also set it up to have an expanded hard drive to record with. Most people who lived and breathed by their DVR do this
What are the pros and cons of using a fire stick?
the best way is through the smart Iptv app its relaible and easy its works like magic with amazon fire tv and GSE IPTV for phones i tried on iPhone and Androids and its did what i want .
just for iptv the nvidia shiled is too much.
therefore a formuler z8 is the perfect solution.
using "apps" and not a box I cannot recommend. apps have a higher risk of streaming errors. my honest opinion of course
Easiest is probably using the TiviMate app. Just paste in you m3u. EPG quality will depend on what your provider has.
Best way for me is using a Shield with TVGuideFullscreen in Kodi with a custom EPG. It's the most cable like experience, but takes a lot of work up front.
