Hey, requesting any Basic/Beginner information regarding Live and VOD players!

by Wanchor1

Hi all, hope you are well and had a good new year.

Firstly, apologies in advance if this is a dead beat question, and I’m sure the more experienced and frequent users of this sub reddit have come across this sort of post however I couldn’t find a good comprehensive post via the search bar.

Trying to do as much research and study as much as possible so that I can go straight into a good setup for when I get back to the UK.

As someone whose after Live TV (movies and sports mostly), and a good VOD service (chilling with the mrs sticking a film on vibe), would anybody recommend any set top boxes or sticks to use?

I have my Xbox which I can use Netflix and amazon on aswell. Having the potential to record to an external hard drive would be seen as a bonus, but not integral to any decisions.

Any personal experiences would be great to hear or even more information about these options which I seem to have shortlisted it too:

Nvidia shield is great (although it seems a bit too much for me as I don’t need the console side of it as I have an Xbox)

Firestick 4K sounds very good and possibly ideal for me?

MAG set top box again sounds good.

AppleTV could possibly have potential?

Cheers for any help Ladies and gents !

I have a Formuler Z8, the Mytvonline2 is quite superb for using IPTV, worth checking out

I have also have a Formuler Z8 alongside an Nvidia Shield, for me the Z8 is much better for the IPTV side of things, Netflix etc not so much

Find a 4GB android box with an Amlogic S905X3 processor. These are very good boxes and will also support recording to an external hard drive. With the 4k firestick you will have no recording methods.

This will also support LiveTV and VOD apps (As well as amazon prime, netflix, etc..)

The box I have is 9.0 and also supports VPN - most previous android versions I have tried also work well with VPN.

If you're thinking of spending that much money on a Z8, I'd spend a bit more and go for the Nvidia Shield and add ImPlayer onto it as it offers all that the Z8 does with Mytvonline 2 but much more.

Firestick 4k is also a great option and from my experience gives a more flexible offering than a Z8 as you can also add IMPlayer to that too.

Z8 is a great device, but only great because of the remote control & mytvonline 2, other than that it's a basic android box.

I recently sold my Z8 as I felt both Shield & FS 4k offered me more, so sold it whilst sell on value was still high
