How to advertise iptv but be safe from legal actions

by apun333

I live in Ontario, Canada and have a phone/computer repair shop and want to be a reseller for couple servers. There are couple other stores like me that do this and advertise iptv on their business cards openly, banners in store windows etc i am just thinking whether that is a bad idea and asking for trouble. Other stores advertise just “android boxes” but everyone knows what goes in them. Some say advertising programmed android boxes is a problem, How can i advertise this but be safe from all the legalities ? Can I advertise android boxes without getting in trouble or can i advertise IPTV without boxes? What is worse if i may ask. TIA

Won't belong before they really do clamp down on it if shops are openly advertising it....... No one does anything like that in uk

Every mom and pop computer shop in Ontario does the android boxes and iptv theses days. Law enforcement has better things to do than police small businesses. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

Android boxes by themselves are ok. Once you modify them in anyway to receive free sources of pay tv it is illegal. If you advertise an IPTV source you are asking to be taken down.

advertising as ANDROID BOXES is not ilegal , even google have there boxes so as AMAZON .

I bough a tv box from a physical shop , who advertised it simply as AMAZON FIRESTICKS , so when i entered his shop he have the firesticks there in there boxes but there are clean , no iptv inside them , after i talked to him he went inside and came back with a firestick where iptv is already installed , in my case it was iptvclouds provider . he gave me the info in case i want to renew and thats it , everything was legal lol.

Ontario guy here....

Watching IPTV in Canada isn't illegal. The copyright laws say anything is fair game if you are using any form of technology for your own entertainment.

The problems come when you profit from them. So, yes, selling a preloaded box is illegal here. I wouldn't advertise it. The police don't usually do anything about it, but assuming you may be in the GTA... you COULD get busted if the government is pressured to do a crackdown. (See; Pacific Mall in Markham about once every 2 years) so, while it's unlikely that you would get busted, I wouldn't take the chance publically advertising it. I'd just go word of mouth.

I provide a postal delivery service of firesticks with installed apk's....if it was to be intercepted and checked by authorities I see nothing illegal...it only becomes illegal when login details are provided and used to gain access to services via these apps... thus hardware and software are not illegal in my own personal opinion ...many may beg to differ

You don't really need to worry about criminal charges honestly. You'd have to be pretty big, and likely stealing the signals yourself for that to ever be a worry. Its Bell, Rogers, TVA and Dish Network, represented by Nagrastar you need to worry about.

If you're easy to find you'll get a certified letter demanding $7500 or they'll take you to court for much more (I think they say $10,000 per infraction aka per customer).

In Ontario, neither advertising IPTV, installing IPTV apps nor possession of a device with an IPTV app installed on it is an offence.

Downloading or streaming copyrighted material may leave you liable but the likelihood of being prosecuted is slim to none.

Using a VPN further mitigates the risk. You may want to consider partnering with a VPN provider and selling that service as well.
