Are there any iptv apps out there with a recording option and a good and easy to use guide interface? I’ve tried pvr live but it doesn’t show my categories and I’ve also tried iptv extreme but I’m not a fan of the interface. Any suggestions?

if you have Android TV with Live Channels then give CosmiDVR a try. It's a Live Channels plugin with lots of features and you can select categories during setup.
