Nvia shield worth it for iptv?

by jayracks17

I have a Amazon fire tv box and I have it hooked up with wired at&t internet. I use Dieseltv iptv service and last UFC and boxing ppv it kept buffering. Wondering if the nvia shield would make things smoother when streaming. I also use ipvanish with it, and my internet speed is one of the middle high speed dsl packages.

I went through 5 boxes and finally caved...nvidia shield is the best decision ever.

GnarlyBear

The box will not solve buffering it is your provider (unless you are on wifi with terrible signal).

There is not a whole market stream source supplier who would max out a 20mbps connection. The only time the box would be an issue is direct playing something from a plex server.

Shield is beast but don't get it to fix buffering.

Yes! I upgraded from a T1 Plus that I used for years And the shield is a beast.

I tried everything and couldn't reliably stream IPTV over VPN until I went to shield. Shield + ethernet + tivimate = joy!

mixterz1985

Still using the 2017 version.

I love my Shield but I'm not sure that it will solve problems with buffering. It is a great device however.

Fents_Post

I have one and I love it. I was using my FireTV Stick 4k and FireTV Box (2nd Gen) for a while. The shield is noticeably faster, more stable, and better interface. The only negative of course is the price. Works great with my Harmoney Remote/Hub.

The honest answer is if the fire tv was buffering, the shield will buffer as well

There is nothing special about streaming video on these devices and people telling you the Shield is better at streaming video are lying or are in a buyer's remorse circlejerk defending their decision to buy an expensive box

Best bet is to upgrade your wireless or connect the fire tv with ethernet to eliminate your local network issues. After that you might just have to get a different iptv service, with servers closer to you or with better routing/peering

What version of the firetv box do you have ?

You could well be wasting your money because

1 Your IPTV provider was overloaded

2 Your VPN was overloaded

3 Your isp was overloaded

Unless you can narrow it down dropping money on an Nvidia shield tv may not make any difference.

mvillopoto

Did you try switching servers on IPVanish? Whenever I get buffering (I also use a shield 2017) I switch the connection in IPVanish and this generally takes care of it.

I've been a hardcore shield user for years now. I ended up with a 4k firestick last year and decided to throw my TV service on there and honestly can't decide which one is better for streaming.

For those who are using Nvidia shield, what app for iPTV are yuo guys using?

MikeyG215

I have a 2017 shield on my main tv and multiple 4K sticks on my other TVs. I use them for IPTV and movies. The 4K sticks work just as good as my shield. I actually just watched the ufc fight on one of my 4K sticks with no buffering at all. Using 100/100 internet and connected WiFi.

mgalati17

It was probably your streaming source....firestick is plenty

rah_walk

im still going strong with a mibox.

I have both the 2019 Nvidia shield and the firestick4k. I had the Nvidia shield before the firestick4k. It's both connected to the same TV and I run both with tivimate app. I find I use the firestick4k more often because I hated the Nvidia shield volume control on the remote. And the firestick4k remote has more buttons so you can page down on the EPG faster.

In my option the shield is over powered for iptv, it will definitely work but your not using anywhere close to the full power. I was debating on firestick 4k 2019 or nvidia shield and I picked the firestick due to price. I have not had any buffering with my iptv only on major sporting events like that UFC match due to over selling. Most iptv providers over sell right before a big event then after that it goes back to normal no buffering. As the other person said in the post it could have been you iptv provider overloaded/over sold or any other normal thing that happens with big sporting events. My option is that the firestick 4k is perfect for iptv if that's all you plan on using it for. If you want to play android games aswell then use the shield but if it's just iptv use the firestick

I love my shield, and highly recommend it to everyone. That being said, I don't think you will see much improvement with buffering. The last couple of fights have been a touch glitchy, I think more on the providers side of things. Just my opinion.

I use OlogyTV and it is the best service I could find since Gears went down.

ebnguyen1986

I have 2 nvidia shields cuz they’re awesome but the buffering could be from your provider as well
