Quick switching when changing channels

by kzcvtm

Just a quick question...I've hooked up with a new provider, and unlike other providers, when I switch streams, is changes extremely quick! What are they doing that others don't?

The provider says they don't buffer streams.

This means the channels are set to “live” and not set to “on demand” so that means they’re paying for connections with their source even if someone isn’t using them.

When they’re on demand the stream needs to be started. Depending how good their network is and their provider is, some are faster than others.

There’s more to it but that’s the answer.

Edit- a channel that is typically set to on demand will load quick as if it was set to live if someone else is already watching that channel. Therefore, it is “live” when you change to it.

And by “buffer streams” that is a “pre-buffer” setting is what they mean. Kind of how YouTube will go across on the status bar for a few seconds and then play. Netflix also.

What provider is that. Do they have a discord

U are using same app for both providers?

If yes, then one might be using a different encoder or maybe one has better servers, more servers, server better suited to your isp.

Yeah I have the same thing with my provider. Really really quick channel change

They have faster servers I guess.

Could also be a routing issue and maybe how far you are away from the server. It's iptv...nothing is certain even if you think you have to figured out.

They could be using a lower bitrate stream when you first switch to start video ASAP then allow adaptive bitrate to upscale up as connection is established and higher bitrate sink is filled. Since everything is unicast (no broadcast because of switches) it's that or they have good edge servers close to where you are.
