4k firestick buffer

by rlsyoung

I cant for the life of me get rid of buffering. Will buffer on low BW channels sometimes as well. I have Spectrum 400. 16x8 700mbps router(ac1600)/ modem. Please help. Works perfectly on phone tablet etc... the firestick is my problem. Have expressvpn even without it buffers.

Purchase an ethernet adapter for fire stick and you will not have to worry about your wifi signal being too low.

Go into your wifi settings. Change from 2.4 ghz to 5 ghz or visa versa.

After you switch from 5ghz to 2.4ghz run a speed test. My parents have a slow 40mbps connection, connected via wifi and theirs dont even buffer on HD streams. You could always try factory resetting the stick

I would do basic maintenance on the firestick 4k and router/modem. First free up as much storage on device you can by deleting un wanted apps. Then unplug all devices from the power outlets and let sit 5 minutes. That will give everything the ability of clearing its cache. I do that at least once a month. Makes a huge difference. I barely ever buffer anymore.

The buffering can also be completely out of your control too. Your data could be routed through a hop that is having hardware issues, overly congested, etc. You could try a VPN and see if you can bypass the problem hop, but that's trial and error if you don't know where the hop is and/or how close it is to you. You'll lose some bandwidth with a VPN, but as long as the firestick itself is still getting 25+mbps, you should be ok

What app are you using? In Tivimate, under playback, there is an option for buffer size. Make the size bigger, see if that helps. Don't remember exact name and not sure if other apps have same options.

Issue is wifi. Behind a tv is a horrible place to receive the signal. If u can get Ethernet cable to the tv location do it and buy a Ethernet dongle thingy for your fire stick.

You could also try a different version of the app youre using or a different app altogether.

Try to always maintain 1gb of available RAM on any sticks. Get rid of any unused apps or apps not used often enough to warrant the storage they're taking up and running in background, as you can always reinstall any app not often used; such as certain utility apps like "speed test" apps or if you have 1 or multiple "emulator" apps installed, but you rarely play games, then uninstall & reinstall6 as needed. Also; if possible, it's best to be hard wired direct ethernet (LAN) eliminating need for WIFI by purchasing the ethernet adapter with dongle for firesticks, but if your router is too far away from your device, then you'd 1st need to buy a WIFI range extender, which comes with a LAN port that you can then utilize the ethernet adapter switching to 2.4ghz if your stick is far away from router or has to travel through or around many walls or up set of stairs. Especially, depending on the type of walls the signal has to get through or around. Are they just interior sheet rock walls without insulation in them or are they plaster and lathe or brick walls or if there's a firewall with blown styrofoam fire suppression insulated walls. Generally speaking, for the 5ghz side of router to work optimally, it's best if device is within "line of sight" of your router. Once you know the distance your WIFI signal needs to travel and the types of walls/stairs it needs to get through or around, this will determine whether or not you'll benefit from using 5ghz side or not. They say it's recommended that firesticks be plugged directly into a wall socket/outlet and not plugged into an extension off the socket/outlet 1st.

Buy an ethernet adapter and hardwire it. I had the same problems as you and now I have very minimal buffering if any.

rlsyoung

The ethernet fixed it. Minimal buffering even with 2 streams going. THANKS!

Try to clear cache!

On your stream. Press centre button to bring up the normal menu. Go across to HW and click it til it's red.

That should sort it. (If it's an option on your IPTV)
