IPTV provider differences ("mainstream" vs reddit resellers) and app suggestions

by HawkCougski

I'm looking to get into the IPTV game but at this point haven't dabbled yet. I'm looking for insight on two topics: IPTV providers and apps

IPTV providers: Can you please explain some of the differences between the more "mainstream" options like Beast TV versus the resellers that are seen here on Reddit and why I might choose one over another?

Apps: I'm interested in the most user-friendly platform with best EPG (both very important for wife buy-in) that will work on Nvidia shield or android TV. I use Emby for VOD and would prefer to use it for IPTV as well unless there is a glaring shortcoming to going this route. I realize that a premiere membership is required for this which is fine because it would make things simpler for the family. I'm not sure if an EPG service would be necessary or not if going the emby route. Edit to add: Catch up and or recording capabilities are important for us to have, specifically for NFL games

You gotta be careful with reddit resellers because you end up paying double the price for the same service. You gotta do your homework so you don't get ripped off. A lot of these folks are selling the exact same provider just at different price points. Just a heads up.

Emby is not an ideal solution at all for iptv, use tivimate or Smarters. Editing m3u/xmltv files can get tedious, just no need for it when great apps are available

Epg data will come with your provider, or you can pay for third party sourcing. Even with emby you would need epg as channels have to be mapped. Catchup is hit or miss, esp for nfl games. Best case would be to record to local storage and watch later

Resellers can be great or shitty, its going to be your due diligence to check for vouches and reviews. Will be the same service/infrastructure as actual providers, just using the middlemen. Personally only use resellers for providers that are currently closed for direct signups

App wise tivimate premium is probably the best but lacks recording capabilities after that would probably implayer premium which has recording capabilities but doesn't look as user friendly

Iptv services there's just so many you will have to trial and error them until you find something that works for you.

Honestly though your device is a crucial component as well when streaming with iptv dont settle for a firestick.

Get the fire cube if your going that route. Or ebay a decent android box there's plenty to choose from under 100$ Or save your self the headache and buy a Nvidia shield tv for around double the price and have a peace of mind on the device.

Last definitely not least a vpn will be useful

EPG data is normally from your provider.

Emby would work but you may have to limit the number of channels to something sensible as some providers have thousands of channels and Emby won’t play nicely.

I use an IPTV provider with a Facebook group. £25 a year and it's absolutely top notch. I get more TV than I know what to do with. All USA sports and tv, Canada sports and tv, Australia sports and tv, UK sports TV. All movies from everywhere. I use Nvidia shield pro 2019 with the IPTV provider own app. It's frickin awesome
