Droidbox Update

UPDATE 1:

Hi All,

We have compiled a test version of the application for Android. Trials can be requested via this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/IPTV/comments/fik9v6/droidbox_request_for_android_testers/

---

Hello again streamers,

It has been a while since we posted an update on DroidBox. Over the past few weeks we've been busy redesigning the UI to make the application aligned with what our fellow Reddit testers were expecting. The new UI should hopefully be easier to use and navigate and also friendlier for users who are moving from traditional set-top-boxes.

Would appreciate if you let us know what you think in the comments below.

Main Menu

The Main Menu is pretty much unchanged. We have removed the web browser functionality as it was not playing nicely with most websites and we do not feel that it is a necessity in an IPTV application (What do you guys think?). In the future, once all core functionality are ready and tested, we hope to create a dedicated YouTube player.

Live TV Screen

The "Live TV" screen was changed to accommodate for EPG and program overview. When a channel is selected, the channel will start playing inside a mini-player at the top of the screen; selecting the same channel again will take the user to the FullScreen player where functions such as volume controls are available. This should make it easier for users to quickly check what programmes are airing on their favorite channels. A sidebar was also created for users to filter channels by Area.

Movies Screen

The layout of the "VOD" screen was also changed as per feedback. We are now showing the available movies in a grid rather than a list view. This not only makes better use of the available space, but is also more aligned with other media centers. Selecting a movie shows the rating and a brief description of the movie. From here, a user has the option to go ahead and play the movie or go back and select a different on. As with the Live screen, a side bar has been created to only show videos relating to certain Genres.

Settings Screen

The final screen is the "Settings" screen. Along with account information, we've added the possibility for users to select the default aspect ratio of the streams being played and an option to enable or disable hardware decoding.

We are designing DroidBox to be as easy-to-use as possible. If you have suggestions on what we can do to make the application better, please do let us know!

PS: A request for testers will be made later on today (Saturday 14 March), on this thread

Hey, sorry if you're only looking for current users. I haven't seen this yet, but it looks fantastic. Is it for Android TV I assume?
