Not understanding your question? Is skystream 2 an IPTV box or a server?
Skystream for the ability to add VOD style apps for tv/ movies , or using Plex shares for such endeavors. Plus, not having a locked device because the landscape of iptv can change rather quickly. It would be better to have a device so you can end a service easily and move on to a new one. Additionally, way better access to trials.
I would move away from mag, it's old technology and you don't have alot of other options but IPTV, at least with your Skystream 2, you can do so much more.
New version of Skystream runs Android TV (and not plain Android). It also has awesome specs and can run (or has) Chromecast, Amazon Video etc. So go for it. If you still need Mag interface experience install StbEmu from Google playstore. If you need full Mag remote experience, get an MX all keys programable Air remote and map RGYB keys in StbEmu app.
If your IPTV Service supports M3U format, you can also try TiViMate or iMPlayer to get Z8/Buzz like experience on Skystream box.

Almost every Android box (even cheap Chinese) is better than MAG device.
