Been round and round trying to sort this out. Have the Samsung iptv app and have a service but it’s shocking. Was ok and then I paid and then unwatchable. We just want the standard free channels. Can anyone help

I would recommend a firestick or similar as I don't find TV apps comparable really.
Get a VPN and watch BBC IPlayer, ITV Hub etc
I'm in Canada not Oz but have same requirements. Fire stick using the Expat Prime app is working well for 8 weeks or so at €10/month for the Freeview channels and 7 day catch-up.
Buy a UK DNS and download the UK apps if that can be done, I have a apple tv and have them all running no problems
Getflixs dns and then change tv to UK region to download UK apps

Get a Smart DNS service (Getflix is good for this). Install on your router so it always just works.

I'm in Melbourne and its worked for years. Regular VPNs do struggle due to the speeds accessing servers in the UK.

BBC, ITV etc are all relatively well available via most IPTV services.
The first thing to try is to plug your TV into ethernet, rather than using wifi. I had a horrible experience before the simple effect of plugging it in (in this case, into the Google Wifi mesh device next to the telly). Wifi can be a bit dodgy, particularly for Smart TVs. (I know it's a hassle, but even if it's a case of moving the telly next to the router just to test, that might be a good idea).
Alternately, if you're in Australia - buy a Vodafone TV box ($72). It's a fully-featured Android TV box, with the latest Android TV on it (if you let it update), and it's brilliant for any IPTV app. You don't need to use Vodafone otherwise.
