Firestick 4k (new) slow wifi, only gets 1mb/s (but somehow netflix runs fine)

by dags_co

As the title says, I just bought a firestick 4k and wanted to join the club here. Netflix is running well, and I've got X game master loaded up (i pulled it directly from the playstore then hosted it for myself and used downloader to get it).

Netflix runs smooth as butter, youtube seems to as well.

Speedtest comes back at 1mb/s but on my phone right next to it ill get 25+ (still not great i know, but best i got).

I am working with 2.4ghz which may be the reason (it has come up in very old threads) but it's all my router supports.

Anyone have any recent suggestions for what i could try to fix this? Watching anything outside of netflix is basically impossible.

I was having a similar problem, though the fire stick was very close to the switch. In the end I bought an ethernet adapter for the fire stick...

You could try a new router. Return it if you're issues persist as then you know it's not the router.

If everything else in the household (phones, tablets, laptops etc) are also running on 2.4 ghz they may be causing the issue. I've seen the problem arise few times. Try a new router that has 5ghz capabilities. If it doesn't work, wrap it up, put it back in the box and return it.

Hey, sounds like the fire stick may be too far from the router. Here's a few ideas, move the router closer or re adjust the antennas if possible. Having 2.4ghz gives you a longer range than 5ghz so that is working in your favor. You could replace the router with a more powerful one or add wifi extenders to extend the reach. A cheaper option than buying a new router or wifi extenders and then best option in my opinion would be to get the ethernet adapter for the fire stick and hardwire it if that's an option.
