Are IPTV services live or behind schedule?

Are IPTV services live or behind schedule? If so how far back are they? Or are people just making these channels up?

from my experience, 5-10 seconds would be very lucky in the IPTV world. Not saying it don't exist, but I've tried 10-15 and they're more like 20-100seconds behind from my experience

Approx 90 seconds delay in my experience.

sometimes 5min to 20 min delay (PPV)

Every IPTV service I have tried is between 1 to two minutes behind.

I’m busy and as much as I love futbol, I’d set up my favorite teams in SofaScore iOS app. When a goal is scored, the app alerts me, then I switch to to the iptv app, fire up the channel showing the game, see the goal “live,” then back to what I was doing or reading g or whatever.

Cable is also behind and so is satellite. Not as bad as iptv but still.

OTA here in the US in my experience is the least behind.

The real answer is that it varies from service to service....and also from channel to channel. I just did a little informal test using two IPTV services against my DirecTV service.

On IPTV #1 (Eternal) I tested three different random channels:

  • SportsNet LA was 16 seconds behind DirecTV
  • Fox News was 32 seconds behind DirecTV
  • My local CBS affiliate was 56 seconds behind DirecTV

IPTV Service #2 (SmoothStreams) I tested three different random channels:

  • MLB Network was 22 seconds behind DirecTV
  • Fox News was 19 seconds behind DirecTV
  • TBS was 23 seconds behind DirecTV

I'm also going to assume that other variables, such as IPTV hardware, app, and internet connection also factor into the delay. I tested on a 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro, using Tivimate, with a gigabit ethernet connection. YMMV.

Sports even on cable tv there is a delay about 5 seconds due to betting sites , now for iptv at least my provider iptv007 also have 5 seconds delay sometimes 7 to 10 depends on the games and traffic on the specific channel .

They usually lag the live feed by 5-10 seconds. This is partly due to the fact that in some jurisdictions delaying the feed by a few seconds indemnifies the provider because those jurisdictions laws only cover pirating live broadcasts.
