Getting a new box

by blackrain3

It's time for me to move on from the MAG 254. I'm still unable to come to a conclusion because I'd likesome more advice from this subreddit. I'm using my box strictly for IPTV and nothing else fancy.

  1. Xaomi Mi Box S - Price tag is extremely eye-catching to me because I definitely do not mind spending $50!
  2. Fire TV Stick 4K - I have the regular one 2nd Gen, but I find it's UI to be extremely clunky and slow in general. Not sure how much of a difference it would make to just upgrade to a 4K and use it for IPTV. I would love to hear from 4K owners out there!

I see an overwhelming positive response in terms of the NVIDIA Shield TV. As much as I'd like to get one, I don't feel like paying $150-$200 out of my pocket for something that will be used solely for IPTV (and Tivimate). I've tried the Z7 and Z8 because I have family that owns those but the the costs of either doesn't justify the use of the box imo. buzztv XR/XRS models seem to be quite expensive too - back in the day the XPL 3000 used to be talked about a lot, but nowadays I don't see much talk of buzztv products.

Thanks!

Tivimate on firestick 4k is flawless.

4K Fire Stick with Tivimate works great.

If you are solely using it for IPTV and Tivimate, as you say, just set Tivimate to automatically load, and to the last channel watched, when you turn your TV on from the Fire Stick remote. You'll watch TV right away and the EPG guide is also ready to go instantly.

I’ve had pretty good experience with the Mi Box. I use TiviMate (for m3u streams) and have no complaints.

Periodically I’ll have to restart the box but other than that no issues. If I were buying again and had the extra money I’d probably spring for the Shield but considering the value, I find the MiBox is good enough.

Try the BEELINK GT King , it’s awesome !

I'm using a Firestick 4k and its generally been great and handles everything IPTV related I have needed.

I agree the OS is clunky but at least its pretty nippy on the 4k and tbh sideloading apps is a bit of a pain but you only need to do it once and then your set.

I use Tivimate on it for m3u.

I also heard a lot of positive feedback for the firetv stick. I don't own one personally, I had a few android tv boxes (mostly from Bqeel). They worked okay with iptv smarters app but were a bit laggy. Comparing that to the feedback of the firetv, I would try the firetv stick. In sense of technology it makes perfectly sense.

A year ago I bought an enigma2 linux box for ~100€ (octagon sf8008) and I will never go back to anything other than those boxes for IPTV. They are opensource, fast (depends on the chip and ram ofcourse), reliable, tons of addons from iptv to nearly everything (community addons) and regular OTA updates for the box and addons. You can register your IPTV sub either with the mac address or a m3u file/link (so you can still use a multiple connection sub). I never experienced problems, lags or stutters during streaming that previously were caused by slower operating systems, zapping is 1-2 second most of the time, navigation through the menu is nearly lagfree, few freezes when I try to go through them too fast but nothing alike those android boxes. The only downpoint is, you need to have some knowledge of linux and/or some tech understanding skills or else it's gonna be a hard time installing everything. Most boxes are empty and you have to install the OS manually. There exist few OS for e2 boxes. I stuck to OpenATV but others are fine. The net is full of tutorials.

Buzztv is still great, if you dont wana spend much money, maybe kijiji/craig list for used buzztv boxes, you can find fairly new boxes for. 40-50% off

STB on 4K is flawless and does a good job

Using an X96 Max+ For TiViMate premium and Kodi.
Both run perfectly on a 4K tv - Kodi is excellent for 4K movies/tv.

Shared a 2 TB Hard Drive on my main computer for recording from TiViMate, and downloading from within Kodi - all with zero problems.

I have recently ordered Mi box and waiting to see how it works. I have an old (probably first gen fire stick), and I was not too happy with it (unresponsive). Are you also using Tivimate app?

Does Tivimate allow to organize the programming, like English, English news, All, Religious, Hindi, etc. (saw someone posted a photo online), or that is something provider has to program?

How much is Tivimate? Is it subscription based or one-time purchase? I don't have android phones, just a windows PC and iPhone.

I own both the Nvidia shield and Firestick 4k. Shield is definitely a faster box but TiviMate runs great on the 4k stick. TiviMate also has an auto load option when you turn on your tv. The new Tivo Stream 4k has been getting great reviews and supposedly runs faster than 4k firestick. And runs the Android TV Like the Nvidia Shield and Mi Box S. If you hurry you can get the new Tivo Stream 4k for a discounted price of $50 till the end of month. After that goes back to $70

There are light years between the older firesticks and the 4K version. It’s waaaay faster and more responsive. My only problem with the firestick is the lack of storage space but that can be rectified with an OTG cable.

Try minix u9. It’s the best out there

Anyone tried the Apple TV 4K? I’m stuck between buying the amazon firecube 4K (upgrade from current 2nd gen fire stick) or spending a bit more for Apple TV 4K. Surprised that the firecube is >£100. I’d really like to start streaming the bundesliga on iptv services and use popcorn time tv

MiBox is a great box for IPTV.
