I know most ppl use VPNs all the time but I’m pretty new to the game using an IPTV should I use a VPN? In the past when I’ve used a VPN it has slowed my internet down drastically. What are the pros and cons to using a VPN?

Been using iptv service for over a year and never used a vpn
Forget it until you get a letter. Ignore it, change isp and repeat the process. Been pirating stuff for 20 years and never had an issue.
ExpressVPN
No VPN here whoever told you most people use a VPN is probably the one getting a cut from the VPN company. Don't need one unless you a really frolicked or blocked by your ISP
If your using an iptv service it is Guaranteed you wil be experiencing network throttling from your isp. It’s just the matter of when? Try the most popular VPN services and make sure your connection on the vpn setting is the fastest which will be the closest server to you. The VPN hides your activity from your ISP, constant streaming is a problem for them. Apparently Data isn’t free!
In my country we have to use vpn for big football matches. ISPs throttle alot during matches.
For torrenting there is no need for vpn so far. Plus if you use real-debrid...
The answer to your question depends more on what country you live in. Do you live in a country where the law goes after the end users for piracy? If so, then yes. Absolutely. A VPN is a must. Do you live in a country that has fairly lax laws toward piracy? Then no, it's not that important.
Download speeds for the mainstream VPNs are usually 250 Mbps+ (at least within the U.S.) which is plenty for HD streaming: https://vpnwire.co
I don't use a VPN. I tried a bunch, but in the end. I didn't like the experience.
I tried for the longest with no vpn and when I would watch live tv it would buffer all the time even tho I had speeds of 300+ MPs then I read a post here about cable company using something about tunneling and then I started using my vpn and even tho the speed where now 100 MPs (NordVPN) no more buffering at all unless it’s that specific channel. Wondering for you guess if I use express will it not take as much speed away? I heard TorGuard actually is faster than both but I’m not sure. Lately amazon prime is detecting my vpn and since I have it via open vpn I’m being lazy to try another server, but now I’m wondering if I should try express or TorGuard for more speed + that amazon thing. Please feel free to advise anyone By the way I have xfinity/Comcast I heard only some cable companies do this
Only the paranoid uninformed who think vpn provides any anonymity (which it doesn't) and those that their ISP blocks IPTV use VPN with IPTV.
If your ISP is not blocking your IPTV provider, do NOT use vpn.
Another vote for no vpn. Unless your ISP is giving you issues with the stream, don't bother. It's definitely not needed. If you want to protect yourself from possible liabilities pay more attention on how you pay for your service. Use anonymous means to pay for your service, don't worry about VPN for streaming purposes.
