Spectrum throttling my IPTV even with VPN. Help

by raydora

I've been using IPVanish to stop Spectrum throttling my IPTV. It's been successful, except for the past week. I recently got a nest mesh router, could that be the issue? I'm getting excellent speeds with the nest router, I only have throttling issues with my IPTV and usually from 5-8pm.

Could be your ISP is throttling everyone during those times

Works great for me. My 400X20 is regularly 480X22. You could have other issues. Look at your modems levels and see what it says.

Spectrum speeds have slowed for many due to more people at home using cable internet. My speeds used to top 200Megs but once covid caused many to shelter at home, my speeds might hit 60 if I’m lucky. I’m in a southern state where most have reopened but still getting slower speeds. I agree with others, it’s most likely over taxed.

Be sure you are actually connected with the VPN
sometimes they disconnect due to WiFi blips

I doubt Spectrum is throttling. You have another issue.

It's a throttling issue only in terms of shared bandwidth. Your node of the network has a hard bandwidth cap of let's say 100 mb for easy math. Everyone on your node gets 10 mb, but there are 20 people on your node. Not every will use their internet at the same time so you'll get your 10, but during peak hours, like 5p - 10p, everyone is trying to use it. So now 20 people only get their 5mb to hit that 100 mb cap. There's nothing you can do about it but complain and get the node split into smaller segments, which isn't going to happen.

Long story short, a VPN is only going to hurt you during those times by further reducing your bandwidth

They don’t throttle me.

Not use the internet at that time. . Your ISP may be throttling at that time due to the system being overtaxed. You can use lesser nitrate if your kith supplier has say 720 feeds instead of 1080 fees. Only a VPN correctly setup can help you.
