If I buy a DNS will it stop buffering?

by damoedge

Hi all,

I have recently encountered buffering on my IPTV sub, it started last week and I think it's my ISP throttling because they have changed from a capped monthly allowance to unlimited data.

I have a VPN and that works but in the evening time it slows down I guess it's peak time.

If I buy a private DNS and install onto the router will it stop the buffering or help in any way? Will the ISP still be able to see that I'm using IPTV?

Any help appreciated, thanks, D.

No, probably make it worse.

No it won't help. You have to find out if its your IPTV provider or your home internet.

To do this you need to test the IPTV at the time of day its slow from another location. If your cell service is fast you can do it from your phone (disconnect WiFi). Do not test from another location in the same neighborhood bc if it's the feed to that area it will affect all neighbors.

Is IPTV good from other networks? It's either your houses internet or your neighborhood slowing down because it's all a shared connection.

Is it bad at other locations or do the exact same thing on cellular at the exact same times? Its your IPTV provider.

Don’t bother using a smart DNS. They aren’t meant for this kinda use. Most smart DNS services I’ve seen are specifically designed bypassing region blocking on services like Netflix, BBC, etc. Most of them are not meant to be used in place of a VPN for the purposes of bypassing ISP restrictions, encrypting your entire internet connection, nor routing your internet connection through to a single server. There may be some exceptions, but honestly, don’t bother going that route. The tiny amount overhead added by encrypting your VPN connection will not be slowing you down by any specific margin, and will not cause your IPTV service to buffer. Issues with slowing down at certain times are either due to your ISP or your IPTV provider.

Only other option is to have your own personal VPN by buying a VPS then installing OpenVPN on it and connect to that.

Quite involved though.

Will work as a VPN but only you use it as it's your own personal virtual server.

You mean VPN right?

VPN blocks your ISP from seeing your IP address

It will not work like a vpn,I bought a sub recently for smart dns,it's great for getting around Geo restrictions for the likes of BbC iPlayer and Netflix USA but will no nothing to help you hide your IP address so won't work like a VPN

All a DNS does is find the address of the URL you are connecting to. If you are making a connection, it won't do anything to improve it.
