BBC works very hard to protect themselves, partly due to the international content provision deals they have and also due to the UK TV licence thing, meaning they are not strictly free. For a free stream of these channels to be maintained, somebody must be on hand all the time to fix it because it will cease working regularly.
The most reliable method is to use a dns proxy with a free trial.

I'd say get an IPTV and enjoy the extra channels, including HD versions of free channels like ITV2/E4 etc, or get a TV tuner of some sort. You could also get an Engima2 based sat/terrestrial TV box, those are able to stream to devices using m3u lists. Otherwise options like TVPlayer are the best bet.

For BBC you can copy the .mpd URL from the live stream page and play it with VLC. I don't know if your player supports .mpd, probably not. You can also tamper your user-agent (iPhone for example) and try to get an .m3u8 URL
