Whats the best internet speed for iptv?

by SteveMKoch

I'm currently running with 100mbps but it doesn't seem fast enough. I installed a vpn and with that running, it lags alot. Buffering quite often. I just want to make sure if it is a speed issue, then I need to upgrade.

100bmps is plenty for iptv.

Does it lags/buffer ALL the time or just during peak/specifics time?

If it's the first issue then sounds like you need a new provider. Iptv are very ymmv so you have to try a couple to get the one that works best for you.

If you have the choice of different servers to choose from your vpn then try different locations and run a speed test for each one. I like 40mbps or higher. Some servers are lower, and some are higher.

It depends on your routing and QoS you have on your router. Many ISP supplied devices are not up for the job. Invest in a decent openwrt compatible mimo router and you will be fine. I have run IPTV from a 15mb supplier line with no issues. Most streams are about 5mb/s. It all depends on your network and who else is using it and what the router decides is important.

You only need around 6-10Mbps for Full HD and 2 to 5Mbps for 720p channels on iptv so your connection is more than enough, either your ISP is throttling which can be worked around with a vpn, or your provider is shitty then the only option is to find a better one.

20-50 is fine for all streams.

VPN will slow down your service, use VPN only if your ISP is blocking IPTV, otherwise avoid it.

My mom has only 10 megs and she watches iptv buffer free.

If you have a consistent 10, you would be fine with most. I only have rural internet (advertised 50), solid 10 and no issues with 1 or 2 people light browsing on the net. 1080P seams to use an average of 7.5.
