STB & MAG activation question

I have a subscription that supports both STB and MAG (using common MAC address of MAG on the STB). When STB is activated using the MAG MAC it works fine (w/o activating the MAG) and as soon as STB is turned off and device power off and activate the MAG using the same service, the MAG works like a charm. However, when I turn off and power off the MAG and go back to STB it doesn't work and gives a message to register the device. The MAG if turned on works fine ...

When i request the service provider to reset my account and go back to STB first (w/o powering on the MAC) it works on the STB however later when the MAG is turned on and activated ..same stuff STB stops.

What is going on? Why can't I use the MAG and STB with same MAC of the MAG for sure not simulatenously....

servers use more than the mac to remember a device. it also sends a serial, device id 1 and 2. if those dont match the server will not auth your second device.. this is to prevent cloning your mac as you are doing.

I've used WireShark before with Mag hooked up to my PC to read device Id 1, 2, serial number and a couple more fields I don't remeber now. I put those in stb and it worked for a while, then one day it just stopped. I think now servers know the exact device you're using and won't let you use another even if you copy all the ID fields. I've tested this with 3 services and no luck.
