Getting into IPTV. Will I get copyright strikes from my ISP?

by mutantmarine

Getting IPTV from one of the main providers but will be using the service without a VPN. How likely is it that I'll get copyright strikes from my ISP?

If it makes a difference, I'm planning to use an m3u link through xTeve on my server laptop, then putting it into Plex. TIA

Some ISP's will block the use of some iptv servers during English Premiership. So if you are into EPL or not the service won't work at these times. A VPN solves that issue.

Remember not all ISP's block and not all iptv services get blocked.

I’m in Canada, using Mag254’s with 3 different ISP’s and no VPN. Never heard a thing from them but I did receive an email once for using Popcorn Time with my laptop. Always wondered why the IPTV didn’t trigger anything. It’s been YEARS in my case. Nothing.

At this time it is unprecedented to get a letter from your ISP. there have been cases of receiving letters from copyright lawyers, or receiving a menacing messages through the IPTV service itself after being compromised by authorities. I would say in today's day and age, an always on VPN isn't a bad idea. If its NECESSARY would depend on where you live I suppose. times are changing thogh.

America here, never been a problem with no VPN. Some speculate that they may throttle speeds when they detect an iptv service being used but a friend who works for a major cable provider said they don’t do that.

To the best of my knowledge you only get copyright strikes for downloading torrent files from public trackers.

I don't think there has ever been a case of anyone ever getting a strike from watching iptv

Ah ok, Make sense now. And I agree!

Zero chance.

I use TalkTalk in the UK. They used to block my IPTV in the past but I've been using it for a year without any VPN now. It seems to only be BT and Sky blocking IPTV now.

You are still leaking your iP to the iptv provider. I wouldn’t be as concerned with the isp. Biggest issue is if the iptv provider turns over your info to authorities. It’s one of those better safe than sorry situations.
