Can IPTV be recorded without Catch-up???

by georgecff

I was just told something I found astounding, so I am asking if it is true.

I was told that anything over IPTV cannot be recorded, unless the IPTV provider has Catch-up available.

Is this true? It seems to defeat the whole purpose of Catch-up. TIA.

Of course it is not true. Recording is strictly a function of the iptv software that you are using. For example I use tvheadend and tivimate and both allow me to record any channel I want. As long as the stream can be viewed, it can be recorded. You just need the right tool for the job.

That is not the case. Recording is just a pain and often fails, and catch up is typically more reliable.

Various ways of doing it; I've basically got UK Freeview (BBC/ITV, etc) setup on a PC and I can record via Plex or Emby

Formuler boxes have recording feature built-in. You can connect an external HDD and record anything. You can only record one thing at a time.

Trying to get IPTV recording to work reliably is part nof what led me straight to a YouTube TV account. Life is waaay too short to make sacrifices like this. If I can throw a little money at a problem and it goes away, that's where I'm going.

usually, these questions get Much better answers. be patient, read alot, ask personally those who Do respond. after much research, I'm been using IPTV for a month. very satisfied with two recording approaches, TiviMate and get.Channels. there must be AT Least 3 (prolly more) different apps and programs to record... get the Best equipment you can afford, get the be providers, and enjoy! good luck
