Hi I have an Nvidia Shield Pro which is great for apks and casual casting. However, I'm looking for a box where the UI is very slick and can do scheduled (multiple) recordings. I have a Zgemma i55 plus but it is extremely temperamental and constantly crashes. Is the best of enigma boxes like this or is there anything similar that's just as good?

The UI and recordings come down to the software you'll be using (and your sub if you want to record more than one thing at the same time). It will be the same for Shield, firestick or any other android box. Try a few IPTV apps on your shield first.
You don't need a new box for that, shield is perfectly capable of it. It's down to the software you use, tivimate will do exactly what you want to do on the shield, multiple recordings and much more.
If you've got the 2017 Shield it should still be perfect for recording with Tivimate and an external drive. If you want the latest and greatest then you'll probably be disappointed but most would agree that it's the 2019 Shield. Anything else would be a step down in hardware but if you really wanted a change you could look at the Formuler Z8 for a slicker UI at expense of hardware or the Tivo 4k which is a step down in both hardware and software imo
Formuler has the best iptv experience hands down . It's like a normal cable box on steroids. It does schedule rexordings great. Even wakes itself from standby to make your recordings.
Formuler is great for apks too. They just added DRM to todays update. I can say all the major Android TV apps I've tried work
