MyTVonline2 running in the background: Does it uses bandwidth ?

by salawow

I can't seem to find that answer anywhere.

I have a Formuler Z Alpha. When i program a recording, i have to let MyTV open in the background or else it doesnt' record (i suppose it's normal).

Question: While running in the background, it's obvious that it takes bandwidth when it's recording, but what about when it is not ? If it's open from 1pm to 6pm, and record only from 5pm to 6pm, does it still stream, thus taking bandwidth between 1pm and 5pm ?

We have the z8, I just turn the box off when we're not watching

I'm not an expert by any means, but I don't think it will use bandwidth because your not viewing the stream with it open in the background.

Yes it does use bandwidth once it's done recording the Box does not shut down. It stays on that same channel and continues to stream untill you turn it off.

It will use bandwidth but only when it is recording.

Speaking from experience of having the Z8, the Z Alpha and The Z+ neo if you start a recording manually you can’t exactly turn off the device While recording as it will stop. You should be able to change channels if your account has multiple connection (XC API). I could double check turning the device off while recording if you would like me too? EDIT: it instantly cuts the recording as the device goes off or in standby.

That being said, If you press the home button on your remote after recording manually, it will record your show in the background. Once the recording is done no bandwidth is being used.

With scheduled recording, if you schedule a recording for later in the day and your device is off, the MyTVOnline 2 device will auto wake the device about 5 minutes before the air time of your recording, it will record for the appropriate length of time, and once recording is complete it will shut down the device again.
