MAC Adress really needed on IPTV for Mag Boxes?

by james1907a

I read some articles but I still have this question where I couldn't get a clear answer to.

So I want to buy a Mag Box 322 but I heard that Mag Box users have to provide their MAC Adress to use an IPTV Provider, the IPTV Provider always ask for the MAC Adress when you want to use it in Mag Box. But is that even needed? Is it possible to just enter the regular m3u link with username and password as you do on Apps like Smart IPTV instead of giving away the Mac Adress of the device? So is it possible to just enter the m3u link of an IPTV provider instead of giving away the Mac Adress to them?

I don't know how much you know, so I'll explain a bit. If it seems like I'm explaining too much, please be patient.

Here's the thing, your MAG box isn't simply a video player, it runs an application that will login to the server, request a list of services (channels/vod/weather/etc), and when you play a channel it requests the play link for it on the fly. The mac address is the username/password.

What you're asking for is akin to saying why doesn't Netflix just give me ftp access to their storage folders instead of giving me a username and password to their website or apps.

Why this setup?

  1. The most important bit is that the Infomir/Stalker system gives them much more control over your access. You could for example decide you no longer want to subscribe to adult channels, and in one click they end your access to them.
  2. It allows for links, channels, and lists to be updated seamlessly at any moment. You wouldn't know it. This also allows load balancing, once a server's banwidth is exhausted, viewer start getting links from a different server.
  3. It allows for advanced statistics like monitoring which channels people like most.
  4. Much better stream security. M3U links can often be shared, whereas the MAG box will request a security token from the server that's only valid for your IP address, particular channel, and exact time of day. (optional)

Can I refuse?

Sure, you can tell your provider that you don't like this system because it gives them too much control, but in most cases the answer will be "ok, bye". This system saves them massive amounts of time and headaches in most cases. If they're desperate for your money, they may offer alternative arrangements.

I hope this answers your question.

Why dont you want to give up your mac address lol?

Yes, it requires MAC. why? Because that's how the middleware system works for those. Ask the people who developed it why they chose that.

As far as your objection, I'm not sure it's well thought out. They can serve you any playlist they want even with an m3u because they're in charge of the server you're getting it from. They can change the m3u that's delivered every day if they want.

If you want snappy but don't want to use a MAC based portal, buy a good android device and put tivimate or implayer on it, instead of some 50$ pos from AliExpress.

No, in a pinch you can also run M3U lists from an Infomir MAG box.

  1. Put M3U file on a flash drive formatted to FAT32 (2 GB or under for MAG250, it's very picky. The newer models are less picky). Use the rear USB port.

  2. When the box boots up make sure to go into the inner portal, then click on the Home Media icon (upper left).

  3. Select your flash memory name and press OK on the remote.

  4. Choose your M3U file on the flash drive and press OK on the remote.

  5. A message will pop up asking if you want to add the channels, select the YELLOW button (F3) on the remote to add all records to IPTV channels.

  6. Once the channels are added to the MAG box, press on the TV button (4th row down) on the remote control to watch the channels you've just imported.

All done, you may remove the flash drive. While not an optimal M3U player it can be done with the MAG boxes and will work just fine in most cases.

If this helped you, please up-vote.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY A MAG BOX.

Even a cursory search of this sub should pull up a ton of threads with people saying not to buy them. Informer is actively blocking IPTV with firmware updates.

Do yourself a favour and get a Shield TV or a Formular

triplebeamz

U shouldn't buy a MAG if you want to use XC or m3u based accounts . They are intended for stalker/ministra based servers. And MAC addy authorization is how they were intended to work.

bobgoodall

buy a android tv device. a mibox or a shield

EFX007

I second the Nvidia Shield or Beelink Box...definitely not a Mag.

backard15

You realise your giving them the box Mac address ? Why is this a problem?

Peacemaker130

Do not buy a MAG branded device, MAG block portals. Get a Formuler Z8 instead :)
