I think the Formuler Z8 will be more future-proof than an Infomir MAG323Aw3 at this point so it would be a better investment overall.
A huge selling point for me would be the fact that Widevine L1 DRM is supported officially on the Z8. This means most of the major official provider apps will work on your Z8, in 1080p as well as 4K natively!
You can also get the Formuler Neo, which is a low budget box.
I would stick to z8 it is a better made, the reason infomir block some of the mag box due to the pressure they get from big boys.
Any box with enough storage will be able to record, just use IPTV Extreme to schedule your recording.

Does it not depend on if the iptv provider allows recording too?
I always presumed that the boxes to record are readily available, it's just not many providers allow it. Hence why some have catchup sections.
Try iTV Player a new app for apple tv.
if you already have a standard android box you can use Tivimate to record
no need for these boxes
