I've just begun my way into this maze of IPTV and since we use Plex for damn near everything, I am porting into it. I'm struggling with the EPG though. I'm able to get a lot - if not most - of the channels working but getting local channels from different regions that I want seem to be failing. I also am not sure how to incorporate PPV into the Plex server or even if that's possible. Anyway, i'm learning as I go and try not to reach out for help unless I cant seem to find any solutions on my own which is where I am now. Anyone had an success here that might be able to discuss it with me? Appreciate all the help this forum has been - a wealth of knowledge to be sure.
- Edit * adding that I use xTeve to port into Plex.
Hey I have your same exact setup. I have it working pretty well, since the Beast EPG is sporadic and can cause you to lose channels in Plex. I use an application called “zap2xml” with the free EPG service “zap2it” to grab guide data for my local area and map the channels to Beast.
I’d highly recommend using an HDHomeRun if you have one and have good reception in your area. The setup to map in local channels is fairly straightforward, always up, and has much higher quality than IPTV.
Not all channels are included in zap2it, so I use the Beast EPG for some movie channels, PPV, sports, music channels, etc.
Just a quick note, whenever you add your EPG xml file to Plex make sure to add the actual file path and not the IP address. I tried adding the xTeVe xml via the IP address when I first had everything set up. You’ll end up losing channels and the guide won’t update properly.
One last thing, xTeVe has issues with the cached data that whenever a channel updates programming for a day, it may not update on the xTeVe side and your EPG data. To get around this, I have a script that runs and clears the xTeVe cache folder before the refresh occurs daily.
