ISP Throttling

by nocholves

Bell Fibe internet I believe are throttling my speed with IPTV. The IPTV was working fine until today (past week or so and a month before that with a different ISP) when all of a sudden, rock bottom speeds started coming. I use a tv with Smart IPTV for my service and haven't used a VPN (on my tv) up to this point (I don't know how on a LG tv).

After hours of trying to get the thing working again I tried it on my pc first without VPN enabled then with it. The difference was crazy. With a VPN it was almost as fast as before with only minor buffering <1 sec every minute or so. When I didn't have it on i was getting 2-5 secs of watching then 15 secs of buffering.

Is there any easy way to get a vpn on your LG tv, Any resources as to how would be appreciated. Or any ways to get around Bell's Throttling. (I'm in Canada and use Nord VPN normally)

Any Help would be much appreciated.

P.S Screw Bell

If you suspect ISP throttling, try WeHe. More info about WeHe here .

Just curious how this would be possible without affecting other streaming services like YouTube or Netflix. I've seen a few reports about Bell doing this but nothing widespread and I certainly never experienced it when I had gigabit with them last year.

Before you start trying all sorts of things, I would call Bell and flat out ask if they are. You will usually find a decent cool support person who will be straight up with you. Could save you some time having to troubleshoot to find out whether you actually are being throttled or not.

Not much you can do if your ISP is traffic shaping. I’ve seen the same results with Videotron. It’s usually the 2nd tier ISP around that time go unlimited and then lots of peeps either update their steam library and or torrent. VPN and get a provider whom has an app you can side load. Sucks but will save you from ripping everything out. If..... you really wanted to get in to the nitty gritty. You can install PingPlotter on your PC. Toss in the URL for your service and see where it routes too. Then fire up VPN and repeat. Possible the routes your ISP is taking goes through a router causing you grief.

I had the same issues with smart IPTV so changed to SmartSTB which alleviated most of my issues. Not sure if it was due to being a different app or using stalker portal over m3u link, but it did the job for me. I think it may have actually been removed from the LG store now to be honest but worth having a look, was a while ago I did this and I use an external box instead now.
