Why does the same M3U and EPG work on some clients but not on others?

I'm having an issue where the channel doesn't work on one setup (via TiViMate on Fire TV Stick), but works correctly through the provider's recommended iOS app (Xtreme IPTV), and then the IPTV provider just washes their hand of the issue.

Any idea what a reliable method would be to stream IPTV on a TV?

Get a IPTV Box, for example a Formuler Z8. Purchased it not long ago, works without any issues.
My provider told me that anything other than a proper IPTV box will have some sort of problem, which I can confirm (changed from an app on my Smart TV to the box).

Load the stream in VLC on PC and check what video codec it uses. It might use some codec that isn't widely supported?
