My provider gave me a link to an app called [Ninja Player ]( https://www.dropbox.com/s/ec74mc4qz79ytfy/Ninja%20Player(2.1.1).apk ) to use. Are players like this generic and others can be used? Or does it need to be with the app the provider provides?

Ok in your situation, you can use some apps that have function to add list from username and password. But not all.
If a server URL was provided with your login details then you can most likely use other apps that support login with a username and password such as Tivimate or XCIPTV Player. If not, you may have to use the app your provider provided, or request a server URL from them.
