Which TV?

by tyrion_1234

I have a Sony tv which can run iptv services thinking about switch to Samsung Q80T, does Samsung have app available to DL like the Sony android tv? If not will stick to the Sony 900H. Also quick question does any of these high end TV models make a difference if you only use it for IPTV no gaming.

buy an android box for iptv. they are like 60 bucks lowend 200 high. everything else is a pain.

Just be aware that Samsung will show ads in the menu after you’ve had the tv for about a year. You pay a fortune for a tv and then they want to monetise more. Also Samsung uses Tizen as an OS which is very restrictive on the apps that are available

I have an old samsung (6000 series) and found it easier to buy a box for it cos of shitty OS. But on my main tv, Philips 7304, it uses android tv as OS, and I have no issues using Tivimate.

I have tried several IPTV apps on my Samsung TV and none of them meets my satisfaction. I ended up with Xiaomi Mi Box S installed with TiviMate and only use Samsung Apps for exclusive apps like Steam Link and Apple TV/Music.

Just get a decent box, it will have better features and specs than most (I want to say all) of the built in stuff, and can be sold and replaced with a better model later down the line of you like.

All honestly get a box or firestick. I too use the TV smart app through LG. However with all these blocks. You need a vpn and unfortunately you can't have it on a TV. I fear the end of iptv is soon.

I actually just purchased that exact TV (85") a few months ago and absolutely love it. I have 3 Nvidea Shields, 2 4K Firesticks and 1 Fire TV Cube. I've been using iptv services for yrs along with my movie and TV show apps. So I would suggest you get an android box and keep your TV free from any apps, and also so you can run a vpn... If you can afford that kind of TV, then you can afford an android device.

FWIW, I have a 900F, and use CosmiDVR app - basically makes the tv into an android box with recording capabilities. I can finally appreciate 900F's gorgeous picture due to IPTV... Originally was gonna get a Shield, but learned it isn't really gonna add a ton of value to my setup.

Personally, I would choose a Samsung over everything else. I appreciate the quality of their product, and it's been pretty good for me, but that's just my opinion. Some IPTV devs build apps for Samsung, but it depends on which one you go with. I'm not a TV expert, but I think there will be some differences, but it comes down to what you prefer. I'm also not sure if you know this or not, but I would use a Firestick for IPTV services.
